Gear Spotlight: Lawson Hammock Underquilt

The Lawson Blue Ridge Camping Hammock is one of my favorites. It has received rave reviews from both Outside Magazine and Backpacker (read my review here), and for good reason. It’s a hybrid hammock tent that comes with a bug net for added protection from nature’s most natural inhabitants. But Lawson isn’t stopping there. Now, the Raleigh, N.C.-based company offers a custom-designed hammock underquilt to fit its award-winning hammock.

Don’t have a Lawson but love this style? That’s fine. It’s also versatile enough to work with other popular “gathered-end” style hammocks, like your trusty ENO or Grand Trunk.

The Lawson underquilt provides an extra layer of protection beneath the hammock and—when not in use—packs down into a stuff sack (about the size of a sleeping bag) and is easily transported.

It’s reversible and can be dark green (to match your Lawson hammock) or grey. The outer shell is made with 210T rip-stop polyester to prevent tears. It’s also urethane coasted to provide water and wind resistance.
