The best backyard hammocks

These are the best backyard hammocks in terms of  quality, design, comfort, and price.

Layback Co

If you’re looking for something a little more, shall we say, stylish, Layback Co is the way to go. Layback Co is a self-described “lifestyle hammock company inspired by surf, skate, and snow culture.” They make and sell thick canvas hammocks (100% cotton) with bold patterns and matching bags. Some of their hammocks also come in a more lightweight nylon material. To help hang them, they sell what’s called Toggle Ropes

As you can see, this is a more permanent style hammock but still very portable and easy to move. If you don’t want to keep it outside to be damaged by the elements, it’s quite simple to bring it indoors to be stored.

They have two main collections of prints. Collection II came out in 2018 and has four patterns: World Love (a map), Palmy Nights, Grand Bazaar (an elegant pattern like a Moroccan rug), Palmy Nights (deep blue palm tree outline), and Muskoka, a multi-color pattern named after a Canadian municipality (Layback Co is based in Vancouver).

Collection I is the original prints and currently on sale online. It includes Las Olas (a beach-inspired hammock with blue waves), Aloha (Hawaiian florals), Freedom (flag),  Mary Jane (yup, the weed plant), and Dreamcatcher, our favorite because we chose it and own it and love it, full of colorful feathers.

Yellow Leaf Hammocks

Yellow Leaf specializes in yarn and rope hammocks. These are perfect for weathering the weather outdoors.

Their models include the triple weave yarn signature hammock, which comes in two sizes, classic double and family size.

They also make a more rugged rope hammock, each one hand-dyed and woven of natural cotton. This Is a more boho chic vibe and can be used indoors, too.

Finally, Yellow Leaf sells hanging chair hammocks, which are ideal for one person and turn any little nook into a cozy comfy relaxation area in your backyard or home.

WholeStory Collective

WholeStory Collective makes home goods that have an impact. They are handcrafted from artisans in Nicaragua, the second poorest country in the western hemisphere where 46% of the population lives below the poverty line on less than $2 per day.

They company primarily makes hammocks, hammock chairs, and other small household items like baskets and storage.

The traditional handwoven hammocks are double handwoven to form to your body, made from weather resistant soft spun cotton. They feature metal loops at either end so it’s easy to hang on straps or a stand.

Hammock Sky

This is one of Amazon’s highest rated hammocks in its class, AND it’s a great price. (We intentionally don’t include prices in blog posts because they fluctuate wildly. Click the button below to check current pricing.)

The Brazilian double hammocks comes in three colors and has a lifetime warranty. It’s made for two people and is fairly portable with loops on either end for straps or a stand. It also folds into a small canvas carrying bag, making it easy to bring to a friend’s house or the park, if you were so inclined.

Opalhouse

Who doesn’t love a good fringe hammock? This elegant macrame hammock has a pattern woven in and fringe edges making it one of the most chic outdoor hammocks. Though beautiful, it’s made of weather-resistant materials and will last a long time.

Sunnydaze Decor

This handwoven Mayan hammock is bright and vibrant. It’s made from 80% cotton and 20% nylon, which means it’s soft and breathable.

Each hammock is handwoven in the Yucatan (Mexico), so each one is unique. The hammock uses more than two miles of cord and is very strong, able to hold up to 800 lbs.

Mayan hammocks are known to be some of the most comfortable hammocks, with weaving techniques that date back to the 15th century.

Hammock stand not included.

L.L. Bean

This high-quality American-made quilted Sunbrella hammock is made of breathable Sunbrella, a fade- and mildew-resistant acrylic fabric. The hardware is also rust-resistant, so it’s ready to take on the yard rain or shine.

We love this hammock because it’s reversible, with stripes on one side and a solid color on the other.

The hammock stand is not included, nor is the personalized pillow, but they do sell them both separately.

Vivere

We own this hammock AND bought it for a family member just because. It’s a great backyard or porch/patio hammock.

It’s durable and well made, and you won’t ever have to worry about flipping over like some of the other backyard hammocks. The steel stand is sturdy and heavy and fairly easy to put together and take apart. It doesn’t require tools, but a little brute strength helps. You want the poles to fit together tightly, so it’s snug and you’re safe, but we have put a little WD-40 from time to time to help slide them in and out.

The Vivere double cotton hammock is made with fabric that can stand up to the outside elements. It’s one of the most popular hammocks on Amazon in this category and for good reason. It comes in a variety of patterns.

The hammock stand is included.
