Keep Your Gear Clean, Dry and Within Reach with These Hammock Organizers

Hammock organizers can help keep all your essentials within arm’s reach for easy access during a nap or overnight. No more fumbling around for your headlamp or sitting on your keys. With either above-head or below hammock accessories, you can conveniently keep all the important items nice and tidy, like a water bottle, snacks, wallet, ear plugs, phone, flask, and even larger items like extra layers, hat, shoes, etc.

If you’ve ever tried to store your water bottle or car keys in a hammocks’ stuff sack, you’ve probably had them fall out or get packed back in with the hammock because you forgot they were in there. Or, more likely, you toss all your stuff into the hammock before swinging in, and suddenly your multi-tool is digging into your thigh and you’re crushing your sunnies.

Tents come with handy interior storage pockets to stash small pieces of gear for the night. So why not something just as useful for hammock campers? These products serve that purpose, helping to organize gear above or below, keeping all your essentials within reach.

Ridgeline hammock organizers

Lay back and relax knowing everything you need is right overhead. These organizers have pockets and zippers and hang from a ridgeline that spans the length of the hammock.

Ridgeline organizers are particularly great for holding smaller and lighter gear. They’re especially handy for hanging things like phones if you want to watch a movie hands-free from the comfort of your hammock or a collapsable solar light or headlamps to light the pages of a book (pro tip: use the red light setting for a dimmer-than-dim light setting).

During the day, the ridgeline acts as a clothesline to air out or dry any wet clothes and gear.

This organizer can be easily slid from side to side with tensioners and hooks, and it’s easily held in place with a cinch. Two separate storage pockets allow you to better organize all your stuff. The center opens up into a pocket to hold water bottles for easy hydration (careful of how much weight) or a portable speaker for some nice hammock jams.

Dutchware Gear sells a number of hammock accessories for storage, including a simple ridgeline organizer, mesh storage pockets, a storage bag with loops for the ridgeline, a moveable mesh shelf, and a horizontal hanging bottle holder.

The one piece of gear we especially love from Dutchware is the Hangtime Hook. This handy device hangs from a ridgeline and holds your phone face-down so you can watch a movie hands-free. The adaptable piece holds devices up to 3.5″ wide, and there are a few other accessories you can hook onto it to hang even more things from.

PRO TIP: plug a little fan into your phone to cool off in the comfort of your hammock

Underbelly gear slings

Underbelly gear slings are rather brilliant. These hammock organizers can hold larger and heavier things than the ridgeline, and are still very accessible. Most often, underbelly gear slings are used to hold packs and shoes, keeping everything off the ground, clean, and dry. If there are snakes or critters, this can be essential. If it’s raining, everything stays nice and dry underneath you and your rainfly. That’s not the case if you just clip your pack onto the hammock strap, which also affects the weight and tension. Or, it just might become home base for your four-legged Fido friends. They will thank you.
